Learning and development

There are plenty of opportunities available to help you develop new skills and advance your career here and we encourage all our employees to take advantage of what’s on offer. Be part of somewhere you can progress.

Induction and probation

In your first few months with us, you’ll be given support to learn all that's required to do your job and understand how the University works. You’ll be trained on relevant systems and be invited to join an 'Introduction to the University' day.

Staff Development and Performance Review

Our annual review scheme takes place with your line manager and is at the heart of your professional development. You’ll meet throughout the year to identify areas for development and look at opportunities to fulfil those needs.

Learning opportunities

We offer plenty of development opportunities across a broad range of topics, from lunchtime briefing sessions to accredited programmes you’ll work on over time. There are opportunities to learn internally and from external experts. If you can’t find the learning you need on offer at the University, it may also be possible to attend courses outside the University.

Leaders and managers

We offer diverse leadership programs, including courses for new managers, leadership apprenticeships, coaching, and the People Management Curriculum for those managing teams or delivery. Additionally our Elevate programme for women of colour and our Aurora program support women aspiring to enhance their leadership skills.

Learning and teaching

Our Centre for Learning and Teaching supports our staff in the delivery of high quality learning and teaching and facilitate the career development of staff who teach and research.

Technical Services development and progression

We support technicians to gain recognition through professional registration and external awards schemes. We also enable career progression opportunities for technicians through the provision of clear career pathways.
