Recognition

We are committed to recognising and rewarding staff for exceptional performance and commitment through a selection of schemes.

Outstanding contribution awards

An annual scheme, where your salary will increase by one spine point. The awards recognise and encourage sustained excellence, commitment and professionalism.

Recognising excellence awards

These take place twice a year and award one-off payments, or recognise achievements through team events, where employees have demonstrated valued contributions throughout a 12 month period.

Staff Recognition Awards

We recognise the University's Professional Services and Support staff who have demonstrated excellence in their work and contributed to the broader life of the University, against our strategic pillars . Similar awards exist for staff in learning and teaching roles.

Pension scheme

We offer two generous pension schemes – Universities Superannuation Scheme (USS) and the University of Bath Group Pension Plan (UoBGPP). Both schemes include a provision for ill-health, a death in service lump sum payment and an annual pension.

When you join, you’ll be notified in your contract which pension scheme you’re eligible for.

Relocation and immigration assistance

We offer support packages available for new and existing staff to help with the cost of relocation and immigration while working here.

We are a Living Wage employer and we are very mindful of the cost of living pressures. We provide guidance on ways you can save money, make your budget go further and access help and advice.

Work-life balance

Hybrid working

Hybrid working benefits your own work-life balance and enables us to create a thriving and caring University campus community, in which every staff member is able to work as successfully as possible in a safe and secure way. We have a hybrid working model for professional services staff who are able to carry out their work remotely.

Annual and additional leave

We offer generous holiday entitlements. In addition all full time staff are entitled to eight public holidays and an additional five discretionary days when the University is closed (pro rata for part time staff).

Family friendly workplace

For those with family/caring responsibilities, we have a package of family friendly policies which provide for flexible working, additional paid maternity and paternity leave, parental leave and leave for family emergencies.

Amenities

You'll also have access to our world-renowned sports facilities and beautiful walks and running routes through the campus and surrounding countryside so that you can maintain a healthy, active lifestyle working at Bath.

If you enjoy socialising, you can join our staff society and meet fellow members of staff while you enjoy fun activities and events.

Employee discounts

Shopping discounts

As a member of staff, you’ll gain access to discounts across a number of local and national retailers and local Bath attractions.

Cycle to work

Our employees can take advantage of the government cycle to work scheme. You can also benefit from employee discounts available at a selection of bike shops.

As part of the University’s commitment to reduce our environmental impact and to reach Net Zero carbon emissions by 2040, we support Active Travel, encouraging travel by foot, bike or public transport wherever possible.

Electric vehicle scheme

We have recently introduced an electric vehicle salary sacrifice scheme

Onsite parking

If you’re driving to work, there is subsidised parking available on site which costs £1.40 a day for occasional users, with the option to buy monthly or annual permits.

There are a range of initiatives available to you to help make getting to and from work easier as a member of staff.

Give as you earn

We are registered with the Charities Aid Foundation (CAF) who operate a Give As You Earn (GAYE) service, helping you to give back to the wider community at a lesser cost through salary sacrifice, meaning your chosen charity receives a larger donation.

Childcare

We have an on-site nursery − Westwood Nursery, which is Ofsted rated ‘Outstanding’. Parents whose children attend this nursery have the opportunity to join our salary exchange childcare scheme, nursery plus, to help alleviate childcare expenses.

Learning and development

There are plenty of opportunities available to help you develop new skills and advance your career here and we encourage all our employees to take advantage of what’s on offer. Be part of somewhere you can progress.

Induction and probation

In your first few months with us, you’ll be given support to learn all that's required to do your job and understand how the University works. You’ll be trained on relevant systems and be invited to join an 'Introduction to the University' day.

Staff Development and Performance Review

Our annual review scheme takes place with your line manager and is at the heart of your professional development. You’ll meet throughout the year to identify areas for development and look at opportunities to fulfil those needs.

Learning opportunities

We offer plenty of development opportunities across a broad range of topics, from lunchtime briefing sessions to accredited programmes you’ll work on over time. There are opportunities to learn internally and from external experts.
