Our culture

There’s a very special sense of community at the University of Bath. This is supported by our shared values, our compact, vibrant campus and our collegial culture. We are proactive in ensuring we offer a secure and supportive working environment for all our people and we have a range of initiatives to foster talent and support wellbeing.

We are a close-knit campus community with plenty of excellent facilities. Our staff and students identify our location in the vibrant, beautiful city of Bath as being an important factor in enabling them to thrive.

A welcoming and inclusive environment

Staff networks and groups

We foster an inclusive and welcoming culture and want to ensure that every new team member feels at home from day one.

We welcome and support individuals from under-represented groups and have various staff networks which help us to progress equality. These include a Women's Network, Disability Network, People of Colour Network and Kaleidoscope Network, for people who identify as LGBTQ+.

Our networks play a really important role in helping create an inclusive environment and building a sense of community here at Bath. They are instrumental in helping people feel comfortable in bringing their whole selves to work.

Staff network

We currently have a silver Athena Swan award in recognition of our commitment to promoting gender equality and we're working towards our first submission for the Race Equality Charter. We are committed to promoting gender and race equality and addressing challenges in these areas at the University.

University of Bath Staff Society

We also have a staff society, Omnibus, where you can take part in lunchtime clubs including football, badminton, volleyball, book group, crafting and board games. These clubs are a great way to meet and socialise with like-minded people from across the University. Omnibus also organise events and trips further afield, for anyone wishing to join.

Inclusive career opportunities

As one of Bath's largest employers, one of our key objectives is community support. We partner with local charities to champion underrepresented groups and remove employment barriers.

We actively engage in transition-to-work programs for young adults with learning disabilities, autism, or both, and empower women in the South West to access meaningful employment opportunities.

We also offer a diverse range of options, from apprenticeships and internships to T-level placements, ensuring that everyone has a pathway to a successful career.
